God's Dev Diaries
Engineering records for the implementation of Earth as a running platform. Commit logs, incident reports, architecture decisions, ticket comments, sprint retrospectives, code reviews. The kind of documentation that accumulates around a sufficiently complex system run by a small team under impossible constraints.
What this is
A record. Not complete. Not intended to be. The archive documents selected artifacts from approximately 4.2 billion years of active development. What you see here represents the subset that got filed. Most of what happened is not here.
The project started in the Hadean. Current release: Homo sapiens, build ~300,000. Production. No planned downtime.
How to read it
Chronologically, start with commit a3f9d2c and work forward. The chat feed on the homepage is the moment layer — what actually happened in the channel before the formal record was written. The artifact archive is the formal record.
Artifact IDs (ADR-006, INC-0240, CELL-2848) in any entry body are hyperlinked to the relevant artifact if it has been filed. Not all referenced artifacts have been filed. The backlog is long.
Technical notes
The primary codebase is not accessible via this interface. The records here are read-only.
New entries are added on a weekly cadence. The publication log is in the canon document. The RSS feed is available.
Known issues
The spliceosome ticket (CELL-2848) has been open since the Proterozoic and is marked P2. The rhodanese refactor has been in the backlog since abiogenesis. The appendix is still shipping. The back pain ticket has 847 upvotes and is Won't Fix.
These are not being fixed.
